Waterproofing ("IP rating")

The protection index (IP) is an international standard of the International Electrotechnical Commission relating to sealing. This index classifies the level of protection offered by a material against the intrusion of solid and liquid bodies. The index format, given by standard IEC 60529, is IPXX where XX are two digits and / or a letter.

PROTECTION SIGN FIRST FIGURE SECOND NUMBER
2 : Protection against the intrusion of solid bodies larger than 12mm. X : No protection specified.
5 : Protection against dust and other microscopic residues. X : No protection specified.
5 : Protection against dust and other microscopic residues. 4 : Protection against water spray from all directions.
6 : Total dust protection. 5 : Protection against splashing water from all directions.
6 : Total dust protection. 7 : Protection against the effects of temporary immersion (up to 1m) and for 30 minutes.
6 : Total dust protection. 8 : Protection against the effects of prolonged immersion (beyond 1m) and for 1 hour.
6 : Total dust protection. 9K : Protection against high-pressure, high-temperature jet sprays, washdowns or steam-cleaning procedure. (Standard provided for food industry)

Please refer to the user guide for the exact IP rating of the product.

Eye safety

As a manufacturer of lighting always concerned about the safety of its customers, EFFILUX relies on the standard EN 62471: 2008, Photobiological safety of LED lighting and devices using LED lighting.

This standard allows classification of LED lighting according to risk groups.

In the event of direct, repeated and high-power exposure, blue light can cause damage to the eye: toxic effect on the retina, aggravating effect of macular degeneration, glare. These risks are all the more important for children because of their greater sensitivity to blue light.

This is why as a manufacturer of LED lights, EFFILUX must inform its customers of the existence of these risks, even if they are minimal for normal use of its LED lights.

> Risk groups

The standard on photo-biological safety of LED lighting EN 62471: 2008 provides a methodology for risk measurement and classification.

  • Risk group 0 : without risk.
  • Risk group 1 : low risk. The product does not present a risk linked to the exposure limits under normal use conditions.
  • Risk group 2 : moderate risk. The reflex to look away from the lamp is enough to limit the risk.
  • Risk group 3 : high risk. The product can present a risk even for a temporary or short exposure.

It is important to emphasize that the level of risk is partly related to the distance between the light source and the eye. The level of risk is also linked to an exposure time. Other factors affecting the level of risk are the light output and the shape of the beam.

On request, EFFILUX can provide a certificate of maximum risk level for its LED lighting.

> Recommendations

Whatever the level of risk of the lamp, we recommend that you never look directly at a switched on light and avoid directing the beam of light into the eyes of another person.

  • Wearing protective equipment is mandatory to protect the eyes and skin. Protective glasses must be compatible with standard EN 170 and must protect the eyes from light rays coming directly or from the sides.
  • Special case of UV lighting (<420nm): Recommended Minimum Protection: EFFO-GLA that reduces the fatigue of the eye by absorbing blue and green light and allowing the user to correctly observe the components during the drying or inspection process by absorbing 99.99% of the UV emission and visible light up to 532nm. Protective equipment is mandatory to protect eyes and skin. The protective glasses must be compatible with standard EN 170 and must protect the eyes against the light rays that arrive directly or from the sides.

Warranty

EFFILUX attaches great importance to the quality of its products.

Guarantee period: EFFILUX products benefit from a 2-year guarantee (one year for light intensity) from the date of shipment of the product by Effilux.

Exceptions:

  • UV products (wavelength less than 420nm) have a one year warranty.
  • Chillers have a one year warranty.
  • The polarizers have no warranty.
